…and we're off!

the 2012-13 school year has begun and this year i have 21 darling "owls".
we've gotten to know each other better through peer interviews and sharing "me bags" as well as through games and morning meetings.

today (although i had a rough monday morning recovering from bad allergies all weekend), was an especially good day.

i read this book called elmer:

i read this book every year to my students at the beginning of the year to promote celebrating diversity. it's about a patchwork elephant who teaches us to be who we want to be!

the kids decorated their own "elmers"with colorful patterns and designs. now, our own elmer's day parade is displayed on our bulletin board! come check it out during back to school night, on 9/19!

then, we learned a song from the mosaic project… the lyrics are beautiful:

"we are all the many tiles, so different and unique
bound together in strength and unity.
we all make the mosaic of our community
and help the world to live in harmony."

i leave you with some pics from our first week…
